GROUNDWORKS / concrete slab

We were appointed to construct a new concrete foundation slab for a large summer house, providing a strong, durable, and level base for the structure. The project involved full site preparation, excavation, and concrete works to ensure the foundation met the required specifications and would provide long-term performance.

The works commenced with the excavation and preparation of the area, followed by the installation of a 150mm compacted Type 1 sub-base to create a stable foundation. We then supplied and poured a 4.5m x 15m C35 concrete slab, finished with a professional float finish to achieve a smooth and level surface ready for the installation of the summer house.

FULL BUILD Demolition / groundworks / PROJECT MANAGEMENT

We came into contact with Ground Neutral during our search for a contractor for our new build development - a 2 storey detached building in Edinburgh. The scope of the initial works was the groundswork, which included uplifting and demolition of a retaining wall backing up to a piece of sloping ground. This portended a real risk in that, the whole garden grounds could come cascading down upon removal of the retaining wall, and a few contractors we spoke to decline to take on the project, or were ready to charge a hefty contingency for this. However, after interviewing various contractors and reviewing several quotes we engaged Ground Neutral. Whilst the risk to the retaining wall remained, we were given assurances that the demolition would be done brick by brick to minimise any landslide.

We were impressed with the works which was completed to good quality. We engaged in conversations about taking on the entire development and agreed a larger scope of work that was originally planned. The development was challenging, given the location, site conditions, and the different parties involved from both public and private sectors. The company however took on each challenge, providing guidance and suggestions along the way, as well as leveraging their contacts from other projects and relationships, to support the work.

The new build was completed early 2026 and the finished product was to a high standard and quality finish. The company has also being responsive in sorting out snagging issues, post completion. We could not have been able to deliver the project without the company's flexibility, ingenuity and 'can-do' attitude. Andrew, who led the delivery, brought a great deal of professionalism, and personality into the work, and was willing to work through very challenging aspects, both on the job and human side.

HOW WE MANAGE WASTE

We are committed to responsible and sustainable waste management practices on every project. All materials are carefully segregated, and wherever possible, materials are reused in their original form for future projects or initiatives that deliver positive social and environmental benefits. Inert materials are crushed and recycled into MOT Type 1 aggregate for reuse where applicable, helping to minimise waste sent to landfill and reduce environmental impact.

electrical ducting and reinstating

We were appointed to carry out excavation and reinstatement works to facilitate the installation of a new electrical supply. The project required careful handling of existing materials to minimise disruption and maintain the appearance of the surrounding area upon completion.

Our team carefully lifted and stored the existing flagstones before excavating a trench for the new electrical cable route. A compliant ducting system was then installed in accordance with current regulations and project specifications. Once the installation was complete, the excavation was backfilled and the original flagstones were reinstated to their previous condition.

Works Completed:

  • Careful lifting and storage of existing flagstones

  • Excavation of trench for new electrical cable installation

  • Installation of electrical ducting in accordance with regulations

  • Backfilling and compaction of excavated areas

  • Reinstatement of existing flagstones

  • Site clearance and completion works
